It's November 1st, which means onomastics.co.uk has now been live for a month! It also means it's time to update our feature of the month. November's feature is written by Dr. Ellen Bramwell, a postdoctoral research assistant at Glasgow, and concerns the interdisciplinarity of onomastic study. Many thanks, Ellen!
Please feel free to discuss the feature here, and if anyone would like to write a piece for us, please email me at [email protected] or Leonie at [email protected]. We are interested in a wide range of topics, so please get in touch if you'd like to offer an overview of your own research, promote a project you're currently involved in, discuss a particular society with which you're involved, or anything else which springs to mind!

Thanks, Carole!
December's feature was published on Saturday - Thomas Clancy has given us an overview of a really exciting project on hagiotoponyms. As a personal- rather than place-name scholar, I found this feature especially interesting as the project involves studies of both the place names and the personal names inside them. Looking forward to seeing how the team manage to work out whether the personal name within the place name is specifically for a saint or not!

Just to let everyone know that the January FOTM is up - apologies for the slight delay in publication.
This month's feature is from Laura Kostanski, Project Director at Geonaming Solutions and Adjunct Research Fellow at the University of Ballarat, Australia. From being an Australian delegate for UNGEGN to running her own business as consultant toponymist, Laura's experience of applied toponymy is fascinating, as is the overview of her career progression. I hope you all find it as interesting as I did!

It's time for February's feature! This time, we've got a post from Line Sandst, a Ph.D. student at the University of Copenhagen. She's given us an overview of her research into urban names in Copenhagen, which I hope will be of interest to all of you!
For those members in/around Glasgow, the Onomastic Reading Group at the University of Glasgow will be meeting at 12pm on Thursday 7th February. This time, we've chosen to discuss Line's feature and an article by Laimute Balode: Place-Names in the Urbanonymy of Riga — Mark of Identity. If you find your enthusiasm for urban names sparked by this month's feature and you'd like to join in our discussion group next week, please come along! Email [email protected] for further details on this reading group.
