I would be interested to hear from anyone who might be able to assist me with research into the origin of my family surname. I have traced the placename Ledingham to 1640 when it appears on maps of Aberdeenshire but the personal name Ledinghame appears in 1595 in Aberdeenshire Sheriff Court records (as a member of a jury) and 1591 in a Royal Charter as Lethinghame all refering to the same area of Aberdeenshire near Insch in the Culsalmond area of the County. The area was called Lethgavel (or a number of other latin variations) in 1195 when it was granted to the Abbey of Lindores in Fife by David, the Earl of Huntingdon. For those interested I have a paper which I wrote for my local Family History Society some years ago and which I have recently updated.

Hi Ken, I'm not sure how helpful this will be but you could search through the Lindores Cartulary records in POMS: http://db.poms.ac.uk/search/se....._all=false
I'd be interested in reading your paper if you could send it to me?
