OBS stands for Open Broadcaster Software, a free, open source live video production software that’s supported by a large community of developers from around the world. OBS Streaming can be used for live video production, live streaming and video recording. When you first download and install OBS, a setup wizard will ask you if you would like to optimize the software for recording or live streaming because it has the ability to mix together many different audio visual sources into a live video production environment. OBS also supports many plugins which can extend its functionality to include features such as NDI support, VST plugins and stream deck controls. Open Broadcaster Software offers many important features that will make your online broadcast stand out. With real time video and audio mixing and capturing and unlimited scenes to switch between using transitions that you can customize, you'll be able to create an incredibly dynamic stream with ease. OBS has filters that allow you to use chroma keying, masking and color correction, and an easy to use audio mixer that can filter sounds for noise suppression and gain. Use the robust yet accessible configuration options to add new sources and adjust their properties hassle-free. Studio Mode allows you to check your sources and scenes out before you start broadcasting so that you can adjust anything, or create additional ones to make sure your stream right. You can set hotkeys for pretty much action, including switching between scenes, starting or stopping ur stream, muting audio and more. OBS plugins are used to extend the functionality of OBS by adding custom code written to do specific tasks. The most popular OBS plugin adds support for NDI, which is an IP video production protocol. Another popular plugin is called VirtualCam, which allows you to take any video inside of OBS and connect it to another camera via a virtual webcam source. This is great for pumping video from OBS into applications like Zoom. Other popular plugins include a remote control for OBS which provide an IP server to control OBS remotely and the PTZOptics OBS plugin which allows you to control PTZ cameras using OBS. OBS Studio is a popular open-source solution for recording your gameplay, and more specifically, for blasting it out to the world. OBS Studio can broadcast your game streams to platforms like Twitch and YouTube, and OBS is also used for creating screencasts. It’s a powerful program, but it’s probably overkilled for anyone who just wants a quick and easy game capture solution.

OBS Studio packs a lot of features and settings, and if you’re willing to put in the time to learn it, this program offers amazing flexibility for power users. To ease the learning curve, OBS Studio includes a wizard to help you optimize your setup for streaming or recording video when you first fire up the program.

OBS works best if you have a multiscreen setup where you can observe OBS on one display and play your game on the other, though that’s not a requirement. Unlike the other apps, OBS doesn’t throw up an in-game overlay. Instead, it just does its work in the background. You’ll also have to tell OBS to start recording or streaming once your game is running or just before you fire it up.

Bruce
