After a very well-received presentation on digital onomastics at the Onomastic Reading Group in May, Prof. Peder Gammeltoft (University of Copenhagen) is returning to lead a workshop about SQUORK, an upcoming online place-name database system. The workshop will primarily consist of a discussion to pinpoint what should be added, what bugs need to be fixed, and how we envisage using the system. Professor Gammeltoft will also be speaking about georeferencing place-names from NGR coordinates and how to get them published on sites like batch-geo, etc.

More information on geo-data and digital onomastics can be found on Prof. Gammeltoft's website: http://onomastics.org/

The workshop is taking place on Friday 2nd November at 2pm. It will be held in Room 1 in the English Language department (12 University Gardens) at the University of Glasgow.

Yes, I agree. It was a really interesting workshop. I had no idea how many useful (and free!) tools exist online that can be linked to onomastic data.

Hello Alice and Carole!

This website is fantastic and great to keep in touch with the world of Onomastics.
Free online tools? Maybe a page/thread could be started with a list of useful sites/resources?

Hope everyone at Glasgow is well,

Florence

Hi Florence! Glad you're liking it - we'll have to tempt you back for a conference or two. We decided to keep the resources out of the forum (for the most part) because there are just so many! We've included a few here: http://onomastics.co.uk/useful-websites/ (you can also find it on the navigation bar) - if you can think of any more, please let me know!

Hi All
Thanks for the kind words - always pleased to help and advise! Just ask if there is anything you wonder about. I'll see if I can help out.

Many thanks, Peder! I'm having a go at using batchgeo now.
